PRESS RELEASE 7 June 2018
MIDSUMMER NIGHT IN THE HORTUS BOTANICUS LEIDEN: NOT TO BE MISSED!
Hortus botanicus Leiden is getting ready for the annual Midsummer Night Festival on 21 June, a truly unmissable event. Come along and enjoy the atmosphere of the evening and the rich fragrance of night-scented flowers, along with tasteful music, small theatrical and musical productions, good wine and excellent company.
Music, poetry, dance and a drink among the greenery
Let us surprise you with the opening act, the Satish Dance Company, the pop choir Prestige and the theatre group Al Dente. Poetry will also feature prominently during the evening; the local radio station Sleutelstad FM will present a poetry night together with the outdoor hotel organisation OpenluchtHotel de Cultuur071, and you can consult Lars van der Werf for a made-to-measure poem. He will be bringing his typewriter along especially for you! Learn more about tropical fruit, try out the future food maze (what is food going to taste like in the future?) and catch up on the subject of edible plastic soup, all within the framework of the summer exhibition Plant & Eater. These pleasures can all be accompanied by a good glass of wine from Henri Bloem’s wine bar. If you are looking for a really special experience, why not stay the night at the Hortus as a hotel guest in one of the unique, artist-designed sleeping places (reservations via the Dutch website fieldsofwonder.nl). Gaze at the stars before bedtime? The visitor’s centre of the Old Observatory will also be open. You are very welcome to join us on Thursday 21 June from 19:30 to midnight. Visit our website for the complete programme (in Dutch).
The usual Hortus entrance fees apply for admission to the Midsummer Night Festival (EUR 7.50 for adults). You do not need an e-ticket if you have a Dutch Museum Card (Museumkaart), a Friends of the Hortus card or a Leiden University student card. Show any of these for free admission. Please note, the doors close at 23:00 and tickets will not be available after this time.
